Midland Football Combination Challenge Trophy – Quarter Final
Weather permitting, it will be a quick reunion, with the two clubs’ first teams due to clash at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground in Tuesday’s MFA fixture.
We will be hoping for third time lucky for this Challenge Trophy quarter final, as the tie has twice been postponed due to adverse weather conditions. The winners will go on to face Chasetown in a two-legged semi-final, with Chasetown being at home in the second leg.
The Mikes, who have won this competition in each of the last two seasons, reached this stage thanks to a dramatic late winner in a 3-2 home victory over Gresley. The Poachers received a first round bye.
The teams have met twice in the league this season. The Mikes produced a stunning display to win November’s home match 9-0, while the return in Leicestershire a month later proved a somewhat different affair, ending 2-2.
Joint manager Rob Clarke looked ahead “I hope we can get this one underway after two false starts due to the weather. It will be a tough game and previous results will count for little. Although we won the home league game in style, the return could’ve gone either way. If we play well we’ve got enough to frighten anyone in this league, so it’s up to us to perform.”
