Walsall Wood Aftermatch reaction

The Mikes Reserves completed the group phase of the Challenge Bowl with a 3-1 victory over Walsall Wood, maintaining their 100% home record in all competitions.

The win moves them into the two-legged semi-finals as winners of Group A, boasting a perfect record from tehir five group games.   Lyndon Weller slotted home a first half penalty after visiting keeper Gavin Ellis flattened Adam Morton.

Early in the second half, Darrell Francis netted from long range on his debut.  Will Hutt sealed the win from close range after former Mikes player Adam Whitehead had reduced the arrears.

Joint Manager Rob Clarke commented: “I was really pleased with the way we stayed clam and focussed when they got back to 2-1.  We kept passing the ball and stamped our authority back on things to seal it with another goal.  It’s great to go through as group winners”.

The Mikes Reserves currently have no fixture next Saturday 10th October, but are scheduled to be at home to Barwell on Saturday 17th October in the Midland Combination Reserve League (3:00pm).
