Westfields 3-3 Boldmere St. Michaels Football Club
This was a match up of two in-form teams, Westfields began the game on the back of 5 consecutive home wins and their confidence showed early on, starting the better and taking the lead on the 16th minute mark. Paul Allam’s controlled pass to Jamie Williams on the edge of visitors eighteen yard was then picked out from the back of the net following his looped chip over Adam Jenkins.
‘The Mikes’ leveled in the 28th minute after Jason Holmes set up Mark Mason who under pressure from Gareth Thomas and the advancing keeper Jon Pugh, slipped the ball the empty goal. As the half was coming to a close Edwards put in a low cross from the left side beat which beat ‘Mikes’ Adam Woods and fell to Mark Davis who bundled the chance over the line to ensure the home side went in leading at the break.
Westfields extended their lead on 61 minutes following an Allam corner which found Edwards who slotted home. Two minutes later it could have been 4, a fumble between Woods and Jenkins allowed Allam the chance to score but ‘Mikes’ keeper Jenkins managed to dive on the ball, inches from the line.
The lead was pulled back to a single goal after Jason Holmes challenged Pugh after winning the ball Holmes fired the ball home to set up a fascinating final 20 mins. With 4 minutes to go Boldmere secured a point, Ricky Baker’s corner to the back post was headed against the cross bar by Mark Mason, the rebounding ball dropped into the area where Hamilton headed back past the crowded area.
