Post Match Reaction: Reserves sweep rivals Wood aside‏

Saturday 27th March 2010
The Mikes Reserves 4-0 Walsall Wood Reserves
Midland Combination Reserve Division

The Mikes Reserves moved up to fourth place in the league with a comfortable victory over Walsall Wood.

After taking a very early lead when Ramarlo Barrett converted a superbly delivered Jorma Seabourne corner, top scorer Johaine Thompson doubled the lead. Wood were offered a lifeline when Barrett committed an obvious foul, but Wood squandered the chance via the post.

The second half started the same as the first, with Barrett again scoring from a corner, this time from Andre Gonzales. It was now a case of how many. After several appeals, The Mikes were finally awarded a penalty of their own, but Seabourne fired over. The fourth goal came through Adam Swain, who waltzed through the visitors’ defence, dummied the keeper, and then walked the ball into the net.

Rob Clarke reflected “We deserved the win and were on top throughout. We got away with giving them a lifeline. It would have been a travesty if we’d lost, but we got nothing out of a similar game at their place”.

The Mikes fixture avalanche continues as they make a tough trip to Gresley on Thursday night 1st April (7:45pm).
