Midland Football Combination Challenge Trophy – Semi Final First Leg
The Mikes and The Scholars face a quick reunion in this Challenge Trophy semi final first leg, having completed their two-legged Challenge Bowl Semi Final last week.
The Mikes will be hoping for more of the same, after an entertaining 3-1 win secured a 6-3 passage on aggregate. However, Chasetown won the league meeting 3-1 at the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground in October.
The Mikes have won this competition in each of the last two seasons. They reached this stage thanks to a dramatic late winner in a 3-2 home victory over Gresley, followed by an excellent home win over a strong Oadby Town side in the Quarter Finals. The Scholars received a first round bye and also won 2-0 at home in the Quarter Finals, overcoming Heather St. John’s.
The second leg of this tie will take place at the Scholars Ground in a fortnight’s time on Wednesday 7th April 2010, kicking off at 7:45pm.
Joint manager Rob Clarke looked ahead “This will be a tough contest, as games against Chasetown always are. Each game has been close. We can draw confidence from last week, but we also know that we will have to be right on the top of our game to get a positive result. It’s a different type of game as this is the first leg, but I expect the competition to be no less intense.”
