Mixed News on Injury Victims‏

Home Dressing RoomThe Mikes have received mixed updates on the injuries to their long-term absentees.

Keeper Adam Jenkins had his two-week x-ray on the ankle he fractured against Walsall and was mightily relieved to be told that the joint is healing properly and no surgery is required.  He will be in plaster for another four weeks, before he can begin his rehabilitation.

The prognosis is not so good for popular defender Neil Hanlon, who was injured in an innocuous challenge in a practice match in September.  His MRI scan has revealed a partial tear to his anterior cruciate ligament.  The positive news is that it is not completely ruptured and intensive muscle work around the joint may avoid the need for surgery.    This represents wretched luck for the Mikes longest serving player, who has previously battled back from a ruptured ACL in his other knee.  Ever the willing clubman, Hanlon will continue to fulfil his coaching role with the reserves, despite his obvious disappointment.

Reserves joint-manager Rob Clarke commented “I spoke to Jenko a couple of days before his x-ray and he was still frustrated, so I was delighted to get the text on Thursday saying it was clear and he’s only got four more weeks in plaster.  He’s asked me to pencil him in for a game in five weeks time, so his spirits are obviously lifting!”

This good news was obviously tempered by the results of Hanlon’s scan.  Clarke added “I got the call from Bogga on Friday.  He was obviously gutted and has every right to curse his luck.  I really feel for him.  It’s a horrible injury for anyone, but he doesn’t deserve to have to go through this again.  It sums up his character that he still wanted to come and be involved at Walsall Wood.  I can’t speak highly enough of him.”

The Mikes’ two other long-term injury victims have been continuing their rehab.    Mark Mason is working with Mikes physio Jo Andersen in her professional capacity at Good Hope Hospital, as he looks to recover from the broken metatarsal he sustained in the second game of the season in August.

Jason Holmes was also injured in the same game, but is now nearing a return to match action after training regularly in recent weeks.
