Midland Football Combination Challenge Bowl – Semi-Final First Leg
Chasetown Reserves 2-3 The Mikes Reserves
The Mikes registered a hard fought victory against league leaders Chasetown to bring a slender lead back to Church Road for the second leg of their Challenge Bowl Semi-Final.
The Scholars went into the game on a ten-match winning streak, which began with a league victory on Mikes’ soil in October. The Mikes established a 1-0 lead thanks to a first half own goal, before a Jorma Seabourne penalty and Jack Brown's’ deft header put them in command. The home side stormed back to reduce the deficit with two late strikes, setting up an intriguing second leg.
Joint Manager Rob Clarke reflected on the game: “I am delighted to come back with a lead. They had a lot of possession, but we kept our shape and defended superbly. Our two centre halves were outstanding. When we got the ball down, we showed a real cutting edge and put good quality in their box. It’s a great win and the lads should be pleased, but we’ve done nothing yet. They are always close games between us and this one could still go either way”
The second leg will be played on Saturday 20th February (3:00pm)
