Reserves crash out of the Smedley Crooke Cup
Saturday 13th March 2010
Knowle Reserves 2 –1 The Mikes Reserves
Smedley Crooke Memorial Challenge Cup
The holders crashed out of the Smedley Crooke Cup at the Quarter Final Stage, on a bitterly disappointing afternoon at Hampton Lane. On a lively surface with high winds, the match was not much of a spectacle. The Mikes were comfortably the better team and carved out by far the best of the chances, but only took one. The visitors scored first as Johaine Thompson continued his impressive run. However, a superb free kick equaliser just before half time was the home side’s first shot on target. After The Mikes totally dominated the second half, the hosts second shot on target came in the 88th minute and this proved to be the winner.
Rob Clarke commented “we should never have lost the game, but it was a harsh lesson in how you can be undone in a game you should win, if you don't take your chances”.
